Top 6 Worst Futurama Episodes of all Time

The top 6 Futurama episodes I don't much care for.

1. lgrobot17: I hate the episodes with fry’s shitty ex girlfriend. I love neutopia for some reason. Swap those two and I’ll agree wholeheartedly.

11. Nathan Gordon: Yeah I remember first watching the beast with a billion backs with such high hopes after benders big score, needless to say, I was pretty disappointed

13. Vera Shepard: The ending was my least favorite episode. I felt so cheated when I watched it, and it really set in. This was the end, and it only focused on two characters? I would have been OK with it, but to know everyone is basically frozen in time just pisses me off. When Zoidberg finally has some good luck he doesn't get to live that out, along with Bender and his son (even if he did have his memories erased). I wantet it to end with the whole crew, they all played a role in making this one of my favorite TV shows.
14. CathySW: The Futurama Holiday Spectacular? I would rather gouge my eyes out with melon ballers than watch that again!
15. peanutbutteroven: Seasons 1-4 are classic. All the movies sucked. A good deal of the post-renewal episodes sucked. I don't know why people want it to come back so bad.
16. 177SCmaro: There were a few episodes that got really preachy around and doted after the first time time Futurama when off the air (after Devil's Hands). "Neutopia" was probably the worse in my opinion, it's one I skip to this day, but there were others too like the one where they were they kinda pushed beyond lighthearted making fun of religion (which is fine, nothing should be off limits) into going pretty anti-religious. And this is coming from someone who isn't religious.

22. Cheetah Stripes: I liked the scenes with Hermes, Zoidberg, the janitor, and professor being sexy. Not supposed to be appealing at all, that's the point. Lol Was hilarious.

30. Alexis Arissen: I zone out on the Lrr heavy episodes. He just annoys me and the Omicronians are mostly boring plot-filler. Aside from that, I have no love for The Honking. I have to agree that Beast With a Billion Backs is the only truly awful Futurama though.

41. Keith Donovan: Bend-Her and the Bender on TV episodes were only kinda 'meh' and I do skip them, but.. I really like all the other episodes on the list. Especially the one with Bigfoot. I would sort of agree on the gender-bender episode that it's jarring to see all characters suddenly become combative to the other gender, but eh, it's still a funny episode.

43. Crow: the only episode i didn't like from futurama is the episode when zapp tricks leela into having sex with him, it makes fry look like a cuck and demotes leelas character imo

45. blochtar: I love Nutopia! I find it particularly interesting to see the character from the opposite gender and exagerate the flaws of BOTH genders. and the guys as pin-up girls is just awesome.

53. ADeadlierSnake: Okay, yeah, he didn't stop. This is just pathetic. I feel sorry for PhantomStrider. 5 out of 6 of these episodes make him uncomfortable because they are about gender bending and sex. Grow up
54. David: I enjoyed all of these eps, the one that stands out for me that I would count as my least favourite is the one where they go over the backstory of how Hermes saved/spared Bender although he was defective. To me they were trying to force the feels similar to the one with Fry with Seymour.
55. RainbowJello: To be honest, Spanish Fry was quite boring, but you have to admit, Bender's wiener jokes throughout the episode were hilarious 😂
56. Alex Rees: I know taste is subjective, but this guy seems to be judging these episodes not on quality of production, but on subject matter, which tends to come down to personal preference and taste. It's fair if there was an episode that made him squeamish (ie. Spanish Fry), but that doesn't diminish from the quality of the episode at all because while the subject matter may be gross, that doesn't technically mean the episode was poorly made or executed. That's one of the biggest errors a critic can make; don't make the judgement of a film or TV show's quality based on your own personal preferences, have it based on actual standards of qualitative assessment. The only episode on this list I kind of agreed with was "Beast with a billion backs" mostly because it felt directionless and slow for a good chunk of it's runtime (but definitely nowhere near as much as "Bender's Game") but aside from that, I don't think a single one of these episodes is bad enough to make any Bottom Ten list. They're still well made and it's clear that this guy only put them on because there's elements that he personally finds squeamish and while it's fine for him to feel that way, that's his problem and no fault of the episodes themselves.

59. Connor Sankey: Definitely, I HATED STING SO MUCH. It wasn't funny, clever, and was only redeemed by Fry's love with Leela at the end. But, even that couldn't save my innocent mind from being traumatized by the episode.
60. funnyblog100: Ok Beast with a Billion backs would make a lot more sense if it was based off Scientology. That would be hilarious if it was all a propaganda video by the church of Scientology and that was the twist.

71. Mr. JustAGuyWithALightsaber: There's not a single episode of this show I didn't love... but the movies don't count as a single episode. I completely agree, I hated beast with a billion backs.
72. Oliver Price: Bender's Big Score isn't just the worst episode of Futurama, nor is it just the worst film I've ever seen - it is the worst film ever made. Here are some of the many, many, MANY reasons why; 1) The main plot relies on all the characters acting stupid and falling for obvious scams for no reason other than the plot requires them to 2) The running joke of all the characters falling for the scams isn't funny, it's just tired, contrived and lazy 3) The Scammers have no backstory and no personality other than being nudists - we don't even know why they want all that money! 4) Why are we supposed to want Hermes to get back together with LaBarbara, given than she immediately abandons him TWICE, after losing his head each time? 5) Barbados Slim is a one-note character, who spends the whole film pointing out how strong he is and does nothing else 6) They RUINED Nibbler- why didn't he just eat the scammers, burn off the code and wipe everyone's mind of the tatoo? Instead, he stands around moaning, just like all the other main characters. It is absolutely insulting to the audience to just completely throw away his whole backstory of being a super-powerful, super-intelligent being and reduce him to a generic member of the crew 7) Lars looks like Fry, sounds like Fry and has no character traits other than being attracted to Leela just like Fry, so why are we supposed to be surprised he turns out to be Fry 8) The film keeps contradicting itself; Nibbler burns the tattoo off Fry's arse halfway through the film - why didn't he do that in the first place? Hermes organises the ships to defeat the gold Death Stars, but then all the characters are shown to be able to take them down anyway. 9) There are too many pointless cameos of characters from older episodes, the vast majority of whom are pointless, and some of them spoil the original episodes. Seeing Fry find and keep his clover undermines the ending of The Luck of The Fryrish, where he left it for his nephew after realising his brother didn't steal it for himself. Likewise, seeing Fry meet up with Seymour Butts negates the ending of 10) They RUINED the Robot Santa. He was such a great, creative character - a merciless killing machine that sees everyone as naughty and is almost absolutely unstoppable. Here, they make him a good guy just for the sake of the plot. The explanation they give is insulting - why would he need the naughty list given he views everyone as being naughty, and how could the scammers steal it? 11) The songs are terrible. The first one is absolutely pointless, and was just thrown in for the sake of throwing in a song. The second one is awful because everyone is singing off-key, and because the Robot Santa would never help people. 12) The ending renders the entire film a waste of time, as the universe ends up with a crack in it, despite everything the characters did. It doesn't even make sense - earlier in the film, Bender knew about the time paradoxes the time travel duplicates could cause, so why does he just forget and bring all his duplicates up?

75. John Landon: So, I actually like Spanish Fry, but the one I always skip is "Jurassic Bark". Not because it's a bad episode. It's a GREAT episode, but it makes me so incredibly sad, and I don't watch Futurama to be sad. The past few days I've been watching Futurama to forget about the horror that is real life.

86. FRAAANKY SUUUPER!!: Beast with a Billion Backs was the best one out of the films (films because here in the uk they were advertised as such, I bought them on DVD as full parts, not seperated). Benders big score was the worst in my opinion. The worst episode is "Yo Leela Leela."

"Bender should not be allowed on TV" is a hilarious episode that actually contains a meaningful underlying message. "Neutopia" is decidedly average and the rest are good.

122. MarshyButterfly: Personally, I find the episode "Amazon Women in the Mood" to be very unpleasant. I haven't watched the series fully but from what you said about Neutopia it sounds similar to how I felt about this episode. Especially after an episode like Parasite Lost, it's rather infuriating to see the characters act like shallow pea-brained jackasses, not to mention the fact that they were happy to be raped to death.. I can see some people finding this funny, and if you do, more power to you, but.. it was just really awful to me.

146. saruni lin: So Ive been going on a marathon on this guys videos and I share many opinions and I'm definitely subscribing. But he tends to get uncomfortable when it comes to transgender people, and acknowledgement of the fact that sometimes society as a whole isn't willing to think outside of the box and the reality that people can be ignorant. I feel like he's kind of idealistic in the idea that people arent all bad and he's caught up in the general perception of "the human spirit that we all posses." I have never been offended by people opposing those ideas. Sometimes I just look at society and think "wow we're literally all selfish assholes incapable of doing something 100% without thinking of our benefit." And i LOVE when shows I watch explore ideas like that too. I don't see it as being pretentious, its just an idea to think about.

153. Aaron W.: There are enough bad Futurama episodes to fill the entire season with. Almost every episode the made is garbage. Silly, stupid, lazy produced, no jokes - instead, all the characters do is saying garbage that should be a joke ... for 10 years old people. I'm not that kind of person who's saying everything's bad, and I really admire Groening's talent he showed for developing the Simpsons, just like the people who worked with him, but Futurama was a complete failure that should be forgotten due to the horrible experience we made while watching the show!

Eric Fick: Yeah i am not a huge fan of the Beast with a billion backs either, i am also not a fan of Brannigan's episodes where he's practically with Leela, i am just not a huge Brannigan fan, he is funny and all, but i think he might literally be the worst character who is a regular on the show, i feel like Jurrasic bark is a sad episode, and therefpre 90% of the time i avoid it when i bingewatch Futurama, My favorites are the farnsworth parabox, Anthology of interest episodes, and others, those are just the ones that come to my mind right away, i like the newer episodes best though generally. 179. RuocaRuod: Oh wow! A man who gets uncomfortable about conversation about gender that is not based on the European patriarchal system?? Didn't see that coming. Futurama uses it's futuristic theme setting to present these "uncomfortable" gender-bender(yes, it was intended) extreme scenarios to examine how we view gender in today's society. If you're not using these episodes to self-reflect on how your opinions may fall on either extremes when it comes to robot-human, blurred gender lines then how can you hope to use critical thinking when it comes to real world issues that affect everyday people?

Yiivo is a unique take on beings like Cthulhu that exist in a way that few people can understand, and people act in a way that seems totally unreasonable to outside observers, except in this case, rather than going insane, they become happy and in love. It also poses the age old question of whether or not free will is actually a good thing. Those who resist end up miserable and left with a feeling of emptiness, while those who have their free will taken away actually manage to get along. It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but a great parody of stuff like the lovecraft mythos or invaision of the body snatchers.

Keep in mind I just binge watched the series on Netflix [having finished the final episode just tonight]. There was indeed some uncomfortable aura about those episodes. Though I honestly had more issues with "Bend Her" than "Neutopia" for some reason. Granted the whole wedding scene with Calculon was great in "Bend Her." And you have to give "Beast with a Billion Backs" one thing. We at least got to see Kif slug Zapp in the stomach. Otherwise I have no real opinion on that episode.

Futurama is a series where characters act like jerks for no reason, it's just the type of humour this show has, and the writers often make fun of human society, so I don't understand why you disliked 'Bender should not be allowed on TV' and some others on this list. I also don't agree that BwaBB was the worst episode (I think you took away the wrong message from the story too, if anything it's mocking religion not promoting it), in my Bender's Game was much worse, it was meant to be a D&D parody/tribute but it takes ages for that part of the story to happen and ended up mostly referencing LotR, plus there were just so many lame jokes that tried too hard and fell flat. A mediocre episode and a total wasted opportunity. Some of the episodes you mention here are like gold compared to that mess.

I dunno, the message seems to have got better over time for me. About the trans-things that some people are complaining about you not liking, eh, I kinda understand. We are used to seeing those characters comfortable with who they are, so its natural that we'd get uncomfortable with their genders swapped. Haven't personally seen Beast yet, but the way you described it, it seemed to be a satire of Heaven rather than an accurate representation of God overpowering human emotions, but what do I know?

So for no apparent reason I am stuck with watching any episodes BUT the ones that mention Leela by name. Which isn't that much, sadly.

One thing I have to mention though is that you seem to over analyze certain themes in these shows as being reflective of society as a whole, or that they're meant as a commentary of how people general act. What's funny about people obsessing over their hobbies or the characters emulating what they see on television is that it's taken to an absurd extreme. I might be wrong, but I would guess that you wouldn't like a show like It's Always Sunny, for example, because there is absolutely nothing likeable about the characters and the things they do are horrible. You might find it discomforting, but, personally, I think that's the fun. That's at least the perspective that I have, and I think that's how some others might look at it as well.

422. Adam Straw: Personally, there are VERY few episodes of Futurama I dislike. I thought all four of the films were good. Heck, I actually thought all six episodes on this list were okay. Maybe "Bend Her" was kind of an unnecessary episode but it does have some entertaining and thought-provoking moments. I thought "Spanish Fry" had a few funny moments but it wasn't too significant. "Put Your Head On My Shoulders", to me, was actually a great episode, because even though Fry was quite annoying in the episode, the ending with Leela helping Fry was actually quite touching. To me, "Bender Should Not Be Allowed On TV" and "Neutopia" both had interesting social commentary. Maybe some of the characters and jokes in both episodes were out of character and a bit off-colour but it didn't detract from the ability to watch them. As for "The Beast With A Billion Backs"...well I already said I liked all the films but I should probably specify. I thought TBWABB was the weakest film, and that was a difficult choice since it's mostly on par with the other three films. One episode I do dislike would be "Brannigan, Begin Again". I've never liked Zapp Brannigan. He's actually among my least favourite characters in the show, if not THE least favourite! I would've just been fine with seeing his career crumble and him fading away, but the episode just takes a ridiculous turn when he gets a job at Planet Express. We see the entire episode basically devoted to Zapp getting all these undeserved victories, Fry and Bender suddenly turning on Leela, their friend, simply because she's a strict boss and they can't be bothered to be mature, and Kif, who I happen to like immensely, suffering to no end. Nowadays, whenever an episode devotes too much of its plot to Zapp, I just tune him out and disregard his presence when possible Just a little tip, maybe watch what you're saying. Some people here think you're transphobic. I don't, but others definitely do.

427. Sean Van: Reviving a 3 year old video because...well, I love Futurama. That as it is, there are some moments that were not the best. Of these episodes, I can't honestly say there's any that I particularly disliked. There was something I enjoyed about every single one of them. They were probably up there on my lesser favorite ones (and not for the same reasons listed), but I still enjoy watching them. The ones I disliked the most were probably the first few episodes of Season 6: In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela, Attack of the Killer App, and Proposition Infinity. I also don't care for Zapp Dingbat or The Butterjunk Effect. I get why other people like them, and to each their own. I just didn't care for them. And to be honest, even in most of them I find SOMETHING that I like. Proposition Infinity probably has my least favorite scene in the entire series, but the conversation in the tornado is almost one of my most favorite. Either way, as was stated previously in another comment, if you can critique an entire series with multiple seasons and movies, and only come up with a small handful of bad episodes, you know you've done something right.

I was originally going to look into getting a replacement, but this video has proved otherwise. It's odd really. I before saw most reviews raving about how it returned to Futurama's nerdy roots and was better than Bender's Big Score, which had me hyped at first, and I did have a basic idea of the plot (monster comes out of space-rip, begins to attach itself to everyone), but this video made me see it in an entirely different light.

NightEnigma8: IMO Bender and Zoidberg can be really funny when used properly but I actually prefer them in B plots or as supporting characters because most episodes that have them in the forefront are not particularly great. They tended to get exaggerated to the point of becoming caricatures whenever they got too much focus. It's very blatant in the Comedy Central seasons. I also don't care much for most Leela focused episodes because they tend to range from mostly average to just plain bad. "Leela's Homeworld" and "The Sting" are the only exceptions. I personally don't like any of the four movies because they're poorly written and unnecessary. I especially hate that Bender's Big Score lessened the impact of Jurassic Bark and Bender's Game was boring trash. Anyway, despite some of my complaints, I really like Futurama overall but it's definitely a inconsistent show that have amazing episodes like "Luck of the Fryrish" "Roswell that Ends Well" or "The late Phillip J. Fry" but it also has downright horrible episodes like "A Leela of her Own" "The Honking" "2-D Blacktop" or "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela"

Good to know there's still people that like transexualism being a punchline. :v Phantom had a pretty balanced and honest stance on its use in these episodes. Way I've always seen it, is that it's been used more as a prop, quirk, or a punchline than as a character trait, in regards to film and TV series. The writers on Futurama might've had good intentions for all we know, but in the end, the whole trans thing still ended up a punchline. As for the Beast with a Billion Backs, I thought it was an okay addition to that spree of longer, deeper episodes. Has its flaws, like Fry's love interest in that one. Something about how she's so one-note, polyamory being her only character trait, born of selfishness, seemingly. But I can forgive little things like that, at least for a Comedy show, especially for Futurama. All in all, I think time will be kind to Futurama. In my eyes, it stands taller than the Simpsons, faaar taller than Family Guy, and will always be a show people think of as a Comedy Classic.

I think the only "miss(es)" you (might) have, just in my opinion, is/are the episode where the kids start their own company (another Hubert clone episode) and/or the Lila-Amy bug-roller-derby one. Otherwise i totally agree with your list. i always felt these things but never realized it. And yeah, the billion back movie/episode was so lame! kudos kudos to you. And yes! jurassic bark and luck if the fryish are totally what set this show apart and are by far my favorites for the reasons you state. Great vid.

Actually I guess there is something that can be done about the first, but we currently can't catch everything. The last two are far off in time but still. His complaint about these episodes is that they aren't as entertaining and don't have the re-watch value that most of other episodes have and some of these have some hateful sexist/stereotype phrases in them that can make it feel like the writers were venting some hate through the cartoon in an un-funny way. When you add up all the undesirable things, you end up with a "not so great" episode, which is what this video lists. Therefore, I think a lot of people who commented, aren't hearing things the way I heard them in this video, so I wanted to share my view, since it contrasts many top replied comments. Aside from anything he said, he mentions 6 episodes he didn't like . The words he used to explain it, are just to help explain why they are in the list and may not have been said in the best way, but it gets to the point.

AND, the whole thing is basically a big mean spirited joke about Susan Boyle being ugly. Which means that not only is it nasty as hell, it's _also_ dated! Also, I never find it cool when shows pick on real-life people who haven't actually done anything wrong. It feels like bullying. It's especially wrong on this show. The whole thing feels so BELOW Futurama. There may be other episodes I'm not fond of, but FUCK. THIS. EPISODE. It is _gross_, ugly, mean, and utterly pointless. "Killer App" is the only one that has me lunging for the skip button.

690. RIP JMC 5: While the gender and social justice episodes do break the characters down into social norms a bit tastelessly, I think people are taking them way too seriously. From a show that touches on all the social commentary from the lens of the future, I think they went overboard on purpose for the laughs. They probably laugh about how seriously we took it. As for the beast with a billion backs. Everyone's entitled their interpretations, but my argument about the logic behind it is that Leela was only spared yeevo because fry was somewhat in control of her getting tentacled. So she never truly felt shcler love and didn't fall in love with shclim like everyone else. I think it was a good episode as it touches on the whole "heaven" concept in a way that plausibly works in real life.

And think the first appearance of Free Waterfall Jr. "I'm seeing double!"-Zapp And "Bender-Her" Gave us, "Congo-Jack" man! "Nough Said!"-Nixon Now "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" was just fantastic, all i need to say is seeing Amy and Fry play ping-pong together was just perfect. And we got the line, "I'm sorry, but I couldn't find your dorsal fin after the crash" "Bender Shouldn't Be Allowed On Tv", your very wrong. And everyone already told you that. "Neutopia" is one of the 2 Bad Episodes, I can agree on, I would put that on my list too. Reason being, I felt the overall jokes could, have been so much better! Ya, Fry had a few good jokes but everyone else.. Like Amy and Hermies, there jokes sucked. For instance I would have laughed if Mom made the professor have a sex change and everyone else just following or did it for emotional support or something ya know? I think the delivery of this episode was just below par for this series...However I can't put it in top 5 worst episodes simply because I loved the Bad Guy in this episode. It just like number 2 or 3 worst episodes of all time. Not close to number 10 worst. "Beast With A Billion Backs" was like number one worst episode , on a scale of 10 being the worst. As I've watched it over, more than twice, I have grown to appriecate it . Yet I have to agree it was a bad episode. If that was a block of episodes on tv, I would have been pissed. Again the delivery wasn't great cause I was curious to see if the Bad guys from "Big-Score" were broken away from a planet that was controlled by the Bad Guy in "Beasts", but no, just 4 bad guys back to back....okay I was left like, there 2nd movie and that's it?

While I don't consider Benders Score the "best" [mostly due to continuity ruination] it was an amazing three parter and had a great ending that Beast immediately ruined by throwing in some random woman Fry was infatuated with, completely forgetting how the previous one ended. It's also such a slog and just doesn't have many memorable moments to it.
